Check Rock County Jail Custody

Rock County Jail is the main adult detention facility for Rock County, Wisconsin. It holds people booked on local arrests, people waiting for court, and people serving short county sentences. To look up inmates at Rock County Jail, start with the correct custody stage: local jail custody, court case status, state prison custody, or a federal or immigration hold. Rock County does not publish a public adult jail roster on the official county site, so custody checks depend on jail phone lines, records requests, VINE, court records, and state or federal locator tools.

Rock County Jail Overview

Rock County Jail is operated by the Rock County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Curt Fell. The adult jail is part of the sheriff's office and jail complex in Janesville, and the official Rock County Jail page describes its role as the safe and secure custody of sentenced and unsentenced male and female inmates. The facility operates under Wisconsin statutes, Wisconsin Department of Corrections administrative code, and constitutional rules that govern local jail custody.

The Rock County Jail facility is not the same as the Rock County Youth Services Center. The jail is the adult county jail. It can hold pretrial detainees, people serving county jail sentences, Huber and work-release eligible inmates, electronic-monitoring eligible inmates, and people held for other agencies under jail rules. The jail rulebook says Rock County detains people for numerous agencies and applies the same jail rules regardless of the agency involved, including federal inmates physically housed there.

Look Up Rock County Jail Inmates

No official Rock County Sheriff's Office current-inmate roster, public booking search form, or recent-booking list was located on the county site. A Rock County Jail custody search therefore works through direct jail confirmation and related official systems. For immediate custody questions, call jail operations. For non-urgent jail records, use the sheriff's records process through the Rock County public records portal. For custody notifications, use Wisconsin VINE. For court charges after the booking, search Wisconsin Circuit Court Access.

The correct tool depends on where the person is in the case. A new arrest or local sentence points to Rock County Jail. A person sentenced to state prison belongs in the Wisconsin DOC Inmate and Offender Search. Federal sentenced custody uses the BOP inmate locator, while immigration detention uses ICE's detainee locator. These systems do not replace one another.

  1. Call Rock County Jail operations at 608-757-8000 for a current adult custody question.
  2. For jail records, ask the Inmate or Jail Records line at 608-757-7958 or submit a specific records request.
  3. Use VINE for custody status and release notification when the person can be found through that system.
  4. Search WCCA after first appearance or filing to confirm formal charges, bond conditions, and court dates.
  5. Use the Wisconsin DOC locator after a state-prison sentence or transfer out of county custody.

Note: The adult jail lookup path does not identify juveniles held at the Rock County Youth Services Center.

Rock County Jail Visits

Rock County Jail uses ICSolutions/The Visitor for video visitation. The ICSolutions Rock County page says visitors may register at no cost and choose onsite or offsite video visits. Onsite visits use facility kiosks. Offsite visits use a personal Windows computer, Android device, or iOS device. Video visits replace traditional face-to-face glass-partition visits, so the inmate does not leave the housing unit for a public visit.

Each inmate receives one free 30-minute visit per week. Friends and family may buy additional front-lobby kiosk or remote website visits, listed by the jail research as $7.50, with charges subject to change. Attorney/client visit routing is separate. Visitors should confirm custody and scheduling before traveling, because a court appearance, lockdown, classification issue, or release can change visit access.

Rock County Jail Mail and Money

Personal mail for Rock County Jail inmates is not addressed to the jail street address. Incoming personal letters, cards, drawings, and pictures are routed through Jail ATM and digitally delivered through inmate tablets. Mail must include the inmate's name number. Envelope covers must be free of gang signs, drawings, graffiti, and similar markings. Mail with lipstick or perfume is not accepted, and incoming mail is subject to inspection.

Commissary is available Tuesday and Friday and must be ordered the preceding day. Funds must be available before ordering. Rock County links commissary ordering to iCare. The research did not locate a full official deposit-fee table, so the page should not state one. Property pickup or drop-off requires picture ID or a driver's license, and contraband can lead to prosecution under Wisconsin law.

Rock County Jail Booking

Rock County Jail intake is described in detail in the Rock County Jail Inmate Rule Book. During admission, personal property is removed, inventoried, and stored. The inmate receives one jail uniform and one set of undergarments. If still incarcerated after three days, the person receives more undergarments and an additional jail uniform. The jail limits property storage, so extra items must be removed by family or friends through the outgoing property process.

Medical screening is part of intake. The person is asked about medical background and should tell the booking officer about disease, medication, or health concerns. A healthcare professional assesses the person before general population. The jail has 24-hour nursing staff onsite and doctors available to review medical needs three times a week. Identification also matters: the jail issues ID cards with inmate identifying information and a photo, and inmates must have ID cards outside their housing unit.

Classification uses the Northpointe Classification System. Current charges, criminal history, and jail behavior affect housing assignments and privileges. Staff send a classification-level notice within about the first 72 hours. An appeal must be made in writing within ten days. Better rule compliance can lead to lower classification and more privileges, while rule violations or new charges can raise classification.

About Rock County Jail

Rock County Jail programming includes Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, church and pastoral visits, Houses of Healing, creative writing, GED classes and testing, and certificate-eligible tablet classes. Reentry services can help people leaving custody connect with medical care, substance-use treatment, mental health services, housing or sober-living support, case management, and medication-assisted treatment with Vivitrol before release. The jail also publishes PREA review and audit materials, including a zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct involving inmates or staff.

The adult jail is part of a broader Rock County custody map. The Rock County Youth Services Center is a secure juvenile detention facility next door, but juvenile access is handled through juvenile court, counsel, and authorized county officials rather than ordinary adult jail roster searches. For a fuller adult custody overview, the Rock County jail inmate records page explains the records request, VINE, WCCA, and DOC fallback chain.

Note: Confirm custody, visit status, and mail rules with Rock County Jail before travel, payment, or sending property.
